***let me pre-cursor this by saying the opinion you’re about to read is that of me, Bull, and nobody at Real Radio 104.1 may feel the same. Maybe.***
I think its fair to say there aren’t MANY things i look down on…or even downright hate on, especially when it comes to music. Sure i have my likes and dislikes, but when it comes to going to a live music event, I’m down for a new experience. I had a new experience on Saturday night, on Tinker Field, at Electric Daisy Carnival 2011: Orlando (EDC).
I enjoy electronic music. I enjoy the feeling one gets from it, i enjoy the energy and build in a really anthemic beat, and I enjoy the bright and vibrant colors and lights supporting the music.
Heres where the foolishness of WFTV comes in to play…AGAIN. Just like when WJRR has its Earthday Birthday event every year, WFTV is ALWAYS THE CHANNEL TO HAVE A BIG STORY ABOUT THE NEGATIVE EFFECT OF AN EVENT. I remember clear as day in the past, “WJRR Earthday Birthday Festival Leaves Field A Mess”. Ya know, it was a “how earth conscience can a group (WJRR) be by leaving a field a mess.” Get over it! It gets cleaned up! Its part of the event! The circus comes to town, elephants s*** all over the place, and it gets cleaned up, right? Never see a negative circus article, calling for the heads of Dumbo, do you?.
WFTV had THIS story running on Friday night, the first night of EDC 2011.
“We asked Orlando officials WHY they would allow an event like THIS on city property”. An event like what? I see their stats about last year’s LA EDC, but OK, listen, i’m pretty up and up on the news, has anyone heard of any overdoses or arrests after EDC? I haven’t. “We asked Orlando officials why they would allow these pacman wanna be’s, eating pills and dancing carelessly to repetitive beat-y music that makes them feel good, while wearing bright, fluorescent colored clothes and glowsticks, to take over our precious Tinker Field!” Want your answer? The answer is because it not only drew people in from all around the world (i know this to be true, just ask my new friends who flew in from Poland for the week), but it stimulated the local economy. I may be over-reacting (i am, im sure)…but it really irked me. ALOT. Perhaps next year when the Lakers come to play the Magic, WFTV can ask City Officials why they would let a man who was accused of rape in Denver to come play basketball at our new arena (Kobe).
Anyways, just wanted to preface the video i got from EDC2011: Orlando with this rant about how ridiculous that news outlet is. Not “World Renowned DJ’s Play In Inaugural Festival Held In Orlando.” No…”Punk Kid Raver’s Eating Pills Will Infect Our City Imminently.”
Am i nuts?
Anyways, heres the video
It WAS badass! For a while, I’d forget I was experiencing this in our own backyard!
